Is it important to read English literature?
People’s opinions on this topic may vary. I think you don’t have to read literature, but still, if you want to follow the norm in today’s society you have to be able to read and understand English. One of the best ways to learn English is by reading it. Other good ways to understand the English language is by watching English TV-shows and playing English video games using English subtitles.
By reading English books, you get a much bigger understanding of how the language fits together when a story comes to life. This way you can improve your grades at school or maybe move overseas if that is what you want.
I personally have read quite a few English books in my childhood. Amongst other I have read the entire Harry Potter series in English and this may have improved my understanding. Now today I don’t need Norwegian subtitles when I watch movies and I can easily have a conversation with a person form almost anywhere in the world, as long as they speak English.
On another note I believe I have gotten an even better comprehension of the English language by playing video games and watching TV-shows from America. Maybe you should try using this in your future classes?
